Biography
Leo Carmona (b. Oax, Mexico) is an artist and designer based in Seattle, Washington. He has collaborated with people and agencies to design brand experiences and materialize stories across print and digital media, with works ranging from branding and visual identities, web design, portraiture and editorial photography, and video productions.
In 2021, amid COVID-19, Leo began experimenting with art making as a way of creative expression apart from commissioned projects. Pulling from his background in documentary photography and passion for design principles, Leo is interested in the poetry found in everyday life, forms, and colors. His most recent artistic work is centered in the exploration of ecological concepts and the environment. Through the use of photography, collaging, and other image-making tools, Leo examines the relationship between built and natural matter, and interrogates the social and cultural practices that shape the human relationship to the land.
Leo earned a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Washington in 2016. In 2019, he participated in a 6-month filmmaking program with Blanket Fort Films, where he directed and co-produced his first short film, The Token.
